Description:The ILS System Administrator reports to the Director of Information Systems and is responsible for managing the Library’s Integrated Library Software (ILS) database and organizing the support and functional requirements for the Kansas City Library Service Program (KC-LSP). The System Administrator will maintain and enhance a hosted, SirsiDynix Symphony system and integrated applications that supports 50+ libraries in the metropolitan area. This position is highly collaborative and interacts with a variety of staff and vendors to support the core, ILS functions of the Library and its ILS partners. Duties include: responsibility for the day-to-day management of the ILS; monitoring server processes and maintaining the integrity of data tables in the configuration; planning and implementing software releases and enhancements for the ILS and advising enhancements on 3rd-party ILS integrated applications; analyzing training and process needs and designing supporting technology solutions, researching, evaluating, and testing proposed system solutions and products; consulting and aiding in creating documentation as appropriate; and resolving ILS-related service issues, coordinating problem resolution as needed with various groups to ensure system-to-system health and functionality. Requirements include: experience with UNIX, able to read and write PERL, and ability to work at the command line; demonstrated knowledge of data taxonomies and relational databases; experience writing documentation for end users and process; the ability to effectively handle multiple tasks; the ability to learn new skills and systems quickly; and the demonstrated characteristics of being a self-motivated, independent worker and strong team player. This position participates in after-hours and on-call support rotation for Information Systems. The ideal candidate will be an advanced problem solver who feels impassioned in using technology to build bridges and affect change. The preferred candidate will have experience with administrative and configuration tasks in a multi-site Integrated Library System, MARC, and LOC Authority Control. Minimum qualifications include a BS/BA degree with related computer networks experience and a demonstrated knowledge of scripting, specifically in PERL, and experience with UNIX (Linux, or SQL). Must be able to travel to service sites. Experience working in libraries at any level is preferred. This is an exempt, full-time permanent position with salary beginning at $58,000 DOQ plus excellent benefits. Position open until filled.
