Description:The Director is employed by the Library Board of Trustees to serve as chief administrative and fiscal officer. The Director plans and organizes the overall work of the Library District, carries out policies set by the Board for delivery of public library services to residents of the Trails Regional Library service area and serves as technical advisor to the Board in reaching policy decisions. SKILLS OR KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED 1. Work with a wide variety of people, including patrons and library staff 2. Organize and prioritize multiple tasks effectively 3. Work without direct supervision. 4. Professional public library experience in small town environments with rural communities. 5. Demonstrated ability to manage both professional and para-professional staff both locally and at a distance. 6. Demonstrated strength in communication skills, both written and oral. 7. Demonstrated knowledge of financial management and budgeting. 8. Knowledge of MS Office programs, with emphasis on Word and Excel PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position. 1. Responsibilities:ESSENTIAL DUTIES In addition to any other duties as assigned, the Director has these specific responsibilities: 1. Maintain control of library operations on a day-to-day basis through regular consultation with staff; coordinate programs and activities under the direction of various supervisors 2. Prepare the annual budget and salary schedule adopted by the Board and administer the budget once approved; prepare financial and statistical reports for monthly Board meetings, including an activities report and background information for the Board; manage the investment of operating and gift funds, with the Board’s approval. 3. Provide oversight of staffing needed to carry out services and programs for the district including developing job descriptions 4. Provide oversight and evaluate district collections, programs, technology and equipment within budgetary limitations and resources; prepare and distribute monthly and annual statistical reports for the Board. 5. Provide oversight for the development and maintenance of district facilities 6. Understand the statutory basis for library operation and ensure that library functions are within legal limits and meet legal standards. Keep the Board informed of current or pending legislation affecting libraries. 7. Develop and promote methods of communication about library concerns with staff, Board members, patrons and public officials; inform staff of Board actions and decisions affecting staff and library services 8. Participate in state and area library activities that enhance local services either directly or indirectly. 9. Serve as the Treasurer of the Friends of Trails Regional Library and as a member and executive secretary of the Trails Regional Library Foundation. 10. Maintain contact with community groups throughout the service area. Give presentations on library concerns. 11. Hear patron complaints on policies, procedures or materials; exercise judgment in satisfying patron complaints; advise and consult with the Board when library policies have been seriously challenged or protested by staff or the public
Minimum Qualifications:MLS from an ALA accredited library sciences program, with at least 3 years in administration in a medium sized or larger public library.

Salary & Benefits:Salary Track: L (FY 2018: $72,217-$87,838) Benefits: This position will receive the following paid benefits as detailed in the library’s Personnel Policies: holidays, time off, insurance (health, life, short and long term disability), and retirement.
