Description:Position Overview: (Position will expire no later than December 30) The School Age Coordinator is responsible for modeling excellent customer service to all staff and customers by providing coordination and communication between the Youth Services Department, Library branches/departments, and outside organizations regarding children 6-11 years of age. The School Age Coordinator is involved in developing, planning, organizing, promoting and implementing programs and policies of the Department. This is a full-time Non-Exempt position with a starting minimum salary of $33,206.00 - 46,488.00 plus benefits.
Responsibilities:Reports to: Youth Services Manager Employee Expectations Supports, promotes, implements, and makes decisions based on established Library policies, guidelines, and programs Knowledge and support of the principles of intellectual freedom including the Library Bill of Rights and the Freedom to Read statement Models excellent customer service attitude and delivery, supporting a collaborative and inclusive workplace Consistently meets expectations set forth in Non-Exempt Employee Expectations Document Essential Job Functions Demonstrates, encourages, and promotes enthusiasm and excellence for Youth Services activities and initiatives Develops communications for staff and outside agencies as instructed by the Youth Services Manager Manages Library reading initiatives Develops and maintains relationships necessary to conduct Youth Services operations Provides training for branch staff in basic child and adolescent development theories and their implications for library programming for branch staff who conduct programs for children ages 6-11 Attends various school-age programs to assure Youth Services quality standards are maintained Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with members of the Homeschool Advisory Team Under the guidance of the Department Manager, this position manages grants related to youth programming Creates and provides Reader’s Advisory training in juvenile literature trends for branch staff Represents the MCPL Youth Services Department at various functions, meetings, and outreach events Possession of a valid driver license and a reliable personal vehicle for use in carrying out the duties of this position including transportation of materials and equipment(mileage reimbursed) Non-essential Job Functions Takes telephone and email questions, performing requested tasks or forwarding to appropriate staff members Develops and maintains efficient and effective processes for and within the Youth Services Department Responsible for the maintenance of the Department Intranet page Attends conferences and workshops
Minimum Qualifications:Required Skills Models excellent customer service attitude and delivery Demonstrates proven computer literacy with adequate keyboarding skills Uses effective verbal, written, and discreet communication Demonstrates public speaking skills Exhibits self-motivation with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities Demonstrates excellent organizational and planning skills with ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently Demonstrates good knowledge of the Youth Services Department and overall MCPL routines Demonstrates proven ability to work with youth, youth programming, and adults working with youth Exercises professional skill, initiative, and independent judgment Demonstrates leadership skills necessary to provide training and direction for branch youth services staff Experience and Training Bachelor’s degree required 2 years of relevant work experience required.
