Description:The Access Specialist II is responsible for modeling excellent customer service to all staff and customers by performing customer service duties in a branch library, empowered by the Branch Manager to make decisions that provide a positive outcome for both customers and the Library. This Access Specialist II position will have an emphasis on Storytime Daycare Outreach Emphasis. This is a full-time, non-exempt position (37.5 - 40 hours/week) and the pay range minimum for the position is $13.69 per hour plus benefits.
Responsibilities:Reports to: Branch Management Employee Expectations: Supports, promotes, implements, and makes decisions based on established Library policies, guidelines, and programs Knowledge and support of the principles of intellectual freedom including the Library Bill of Rights and the Freedom to Read Statement Models excellent customer service attitude and delivery, supporting a collaborative and inclusive workplace Consistently meets expectations set forth in the Non-Exempt Employee Expectations Document Essential Job Functions: Assists customers in use of library resources Assists customers in locating materials Assists customers with technology-related questions and issues Performs customer account duties for customers Processes materials for customer holds and to return to the shelves Provides assistance by phone for customers Prepares and presents programs for adults, teens, youth and children Evaluates programs, keeps records, and reports branch activity Provides supervision of branch and staff in absence of branch management Performs community outreach under the direction of the Branch Manager Investigates and brings new community partnership ideas to management Non-Essential Job Functions: Performs a wide variety of related routine library tasks Shelves books and reads shelves for accurate material placement Opens and closes the branch library Attends meetings, conferences and workshops Maintains and organizes periodicals housed in the branch Assists with branch special programs or events Assists in merchandising the library Ability to speak a foreign language Required Skills: Models excellent customer service attitude and delivery Demonstrates proven computer literacy with adequate keyboarding skills Uses effective verbal, written, and discreet communication with individuals or in group settings Exhibits self-motivation with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities Demonstrates excellent organizational and planning skills with ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently Performs duties requiring the exercise of professional skill, initiative and independent judgment Successfully handles matters of conflict Demonstrates proficiency in office productivity and library operation software Exhibits knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System and other library-related routines Essential Physical Abilities to be accomplished with or without reasonable accommodation are: Clarity of speech and hearing which permits the employee to communicate effectively with the supervisor and other employees. Vision which permits the employee to produce and review a wide variety of library materials, written correspondence, reports and related materials in both electronic and hard copy form. Manual dexterity which permits the employee to operate a keyboard and any other assigned equipment to process library materials. Personal mobility which permits the employee to monitor, supervise, and perform assigned library operations, and to attend Library district, community, and public meetings at various locations. Lift up to 40 pounds, push and pull carts weighing up to 200 pounds, bend, stoop and reach shelving from floor level to 6 feet high, and stand or walk for at least 1 hour at a time. Tolerance for dust and mold which permits the employee to work with books and other library materials as well as work in older buildings. Minimum Qualifications:Experience and Training: High school diploma or GED Required and 18 years old Associate’s Degree or higher preferred Customer service experience preferred Basic proficiency with computers in a Windows-based environment required Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office software preferred
