Description:The Community Programming Specialist is responsible for modeling excellent customer service to all staff and customers by serving as a liaison between the Community Programming Department (CPD) and groups of branch locations in order to facilitate communication and improved customer service for internal and external audiences. This may include responding to staff questions and concerns about programming opportunities as well as evaluating current programming activities by reviewing programming records and customer evaluations and observing a variety of programs and presenters. This is a full-time Non-Exempt position with a starting wage of $13.69 per hour plus benefits.
Responsibilities:Employee Expectations: Supports, promotes, implements, and makes decisions based on established Library policies, guidelines, and programs Knowledge and support of the principles of Intellectual Freedom including the Library Bill of Rights and The Freedom to Read Statement Models excellent customer service attitude and delivery, supporting a collaborative and inclusive workplace Consistently meets expectations set forth in the Non-Exempt Expectations Document Essential Job Functions: Develops collaborative and open-sourced approach to programming Helps to articulate programming policies and serves as a reference for Branch colleagues, addressing branch employees’ questions and concerns Monitors programming statistics, and responds to potential CPD policy violations and other issues indicated in statistical program records Creates and provides training in a variety of formats including face-to-face, classroom, and/or slack chat for Branch Programming Coordinators and Branch Program Facilitators Pursues teen programming opportunities as directed, in response to audience needs; including recruiting and scheduling programs and presenters. Utilizes available technology develops and demonstrates effective video and/or streaming extensions of library programs Maintains assigned CPD presenter relationships, serving as point of contact for assigned presenters Hosts programs on a regular basis at branch locations Evaluates programs on a regular basis at branch locations Meets regularly with Branch Programming Coordinators and Teen Programmers at branch locations Works with BPCs on programming selection Updates and corrects records within the Access scheduling database, the programming stats system, and the online calendar Analyzes audience demographics at branches as well as public library programming trends Attends and assists with CPD training sessions Assists with system wide special-events and initiatives Books required items for HQ-Provided programs, on occasion developing booking reports to determine items needed for programs Assists with content creation for marketing materials as needed Assists with the coordination of special events Serve as liaison with Marketing department to promote library programs and events, providing assistance with the preparation of Beyond the Books Serve as liaison between CPD and other departments to facilitate preparation and presentation of programs and services Obtain photos of new programs and presenters, attending and photographing programs as needed Prepare specialized statistical reports, utilized both the scheduling database and stats system Possession of a valid Missouri driver license and a reliable personal vehicle for use in carrying out the duties of this position including transportation of materials and equipment(mileage reimbursed) Non-essential Job Functions: Present programs for the public Attends meeting, conferences, and workshops Contributes to metro-wide public library collaborations Serves on MCPL committees as needed
Minimum Qualifications:Required Skills: Models excellent customer service attitude and delivery Demonstrates proven digital literacy and knowledge of Workflows and Microsoft Office software Motivated collaborator Uses effective verbal, written, and discreet communication with management, co-workers, and the public Exhibits self-motivation with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, manage changing priorities, and work independently Demonstrates excellent organizational and planning skills with ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently Possesses ability to adapt quickly to new technologies Performs professional duties requiring the exercise of professional skill, initiative, and independent judgement Successfully handles matters of conflict Remains current on trends in the library field Possesses ability to maintain a flexible 40 hours per week schedule, including some evening and weekend hours Possesses knowledge of CPD policies and procedures Access to reliable transportation for travel on company business (mileage reimbursement provided) Experience and Training High School Diploma/GED is required Associate’s Degree with significant coursework in Communications or related subjects preferred 1 year of library or community programming experience required Previous experience working with teens preferred Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office software required Essential Physical Abilities to be accomplished with or without reasonable accommodation are: Clarity of speech and hearing which permits the employee to communicate effectively with the supervisor and other employees Vision which permits the employee to produce and review a wide variety of library materials, written correspondence, reports and related materials in both electronic and hard copy form Manual dexterity which permits the employee to operate a keyboard and any other assigned equipment Personal mobility which permits the employee to monitor and perform assigned library operations, and to attend library meetings at various locations Sufficient tolerance for dust and mold which permits the employee to work with books and other library materials as well as working in older buildings Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds, push and pull carts weighing up to 200 pounds NOTE: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
