Description:The Cataloger and Metadata Specialist Librarian has primary responsibility for original and copy cataloging of library materials. The position is responsible for original cataloging for books, media, and government publications, and assigning metadata for state government publications. The incumbent must also provide reference and information services to Missouri State government agencies, employees and the public, develop and maintain web pages and assist with outreach and training sessions.
Responsibilities:•Performs original and copy cataloging in all formats for the Missouri State Library, Reference Services Division, using cataloging tools and resources (such as DDC, MARC, RDA, LCSH, LCNA and LCC), and performing batch-loading; •Develops and maintains expert knowledge of issues related to metadata and catalog database maintenance; advises the Director of Reference Services on technical issues and changing technology associated with cataloging and metadata; •Works with Outreach and Training Librarian to develop, advertise and present training sessions for state employees in using information services and resources; •Contributes to library website content creation; •Works as part of a collaborative team to develop and maintain the programs of the Reference Services Division;
Minimum Qualifications:An earned Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution is required. Working knowledge of OCLC products and services is required. Experience with technical services modules of Innovative Interface’s Sierra or other automated systems is strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:• Knowledge of automated library cataloging, metadata standards and authority control, such as Dewey Decimal Classification, MARC, LCSH, LC subject headings, RDA, LCNA, and SUDOC and MODOC classification; • Experience with metadata creation in a library setting; • Knowledge of the principles of information organization as required in building and applying ontologies (including taxonomies, classification schemes, thesauri, and metadata elements);
Salary & Benefits:$1,596-$1,654.50 Semimonthly; full benefits, eg, medical, dental, vision, etc.
