Description:Johnson County Library in Overland Park, Kansas, seeks qualified applicants to fill the position of Collection Specialist. The person will be part of a high-functioning, independent and motivated team of Collection Development Librarians who perform centralized selection, management and weeding for a growing 14 branch system with a floating collection. We seek a forward-thinking, curious, data-driven librarian who will adhere to the principles of intellectual freedom and abide by the Johnson County Collection Development Policy, the ALA Library Bill of Rights and the ALA Freedom to Read and Freedom to View documents. This selector will be responsible for the DVD, Music CD, and Video Game collections for all ages. The successful candidate will review, select, and evaluate online AV content and platforms. This selector acts as a subject matter expert to develop procedures and policies related to collection and materials management and uses data to inform decisions and to report on collection activities.
Responsibilities:• Selects content in all formats to ensure a balanced collection in line with the Library Collection Policy and Strategic Plan; reviews and evaluates materials for addition to the collection using relevant review sources; manages and expends budget; coordinates Library staff and patron input into the collection. Actively develops workflow efficiencies in the selecting and ordering processes; maintains expert knowledge of publishing and writing trends. • Evaluates and manages the system-wide collection for focus area; develops core lists, analyzes data, recommends collection-related changes, develops weeding models, and trains staff as appropriate. • Leads Library committees and projects teams; represents department to the public. • Stays current with professional library and technological trends and literature and participates in national, regional and local library groups.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science or related field of study; demonstrated knowledge of collection history and trends; and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Two (2) years of experience with selection of library materials or experience in publishing field; demonstrated ability to analyze data, statistical and financial reports; and demonstrated ability to work with the public.
