Description:• Catalogs and classifies physical library materials using OCLC for input into library’s ILS, Polaris Library system. • Manages and processes electronic cataloging records into Polaris Library system. • Creates original cataloging records for input into OCLC and Polaris Library system. • Ensures quality of bibliographic and digital databases through compliance with national and local standards including MARC, AACR2, RDA, LCSH, LCRI, DDC, OCLC cataloging practices and other appropriate cataloging/metadata standards. • Manages the quality control of all metadata. • Analyzes, designs, and applies solutions to collection issues and opportunities. • Participates in library digital projects using digital collections software. Keeps abreast of developments in electronic publishing. • Develops documentation for the creation and application of metadata and provides training and consultation to library staff and the public library community about metadata. • Provides leadership in the area of metadata management within the library environment through participation in departmental, cross-departmental, and cross-organization projects. • Assists in the development of plans, practices, workflows and priorities within the department and library. • Maintain the integrity and effectiveness of the library’s catalog through subject and name authority control, choice of access points, subject analysis, proofreading, etc. • Create original cataloging records as needed. • Perform database cleanup to insure integrity of database. • Assign collection codes and location codes to library materials. • Add holdings to library catalog database.
Responsibilities:• Complete work accurately and in a timely manner. • Maintain regular reliable attendance. • Train and mentor staff as assigned. • Display initiative and provide leadership, in cooperation with Technical Services Manager, in helping to achieve the goals of the Technical Services Department, including but not limited to reading professional materials, attending conferences, leading groups and serving as a role model. • Represent Technical Services and the Library both within and outside the Library. • Work as part of a team and independently. Provide leadership and initiative, in cooperation with the manager, in helping to achieve goals. Keep current on trends in library services and make recommendations based on knowledge and experience. • Assist Technical Services Manager in overseeing that a smooth workflow is maintained throughout the department and communicate any workflow issues that arise with the Technical Services Manager. • Maintain technology competency at a level determined by the Library.
Minimum Qualifications:This position requires: Master of Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution or 24 hours of MLS coursework plus 3 years of cataloging experience; ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with patrons, volunteers, community partners, colleagues, and supervisors; ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, to be flexible and adapt to a fast-paced work environment; excellent interpersonal skills and strong service orientation; proficiency in the use of Anglo-American cataloging rules, cataloging classification schemes, Library of Congress subject headings, MARC records, and bibliographic utilities, perferably OCLC; good organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to perform detailed work with accuracy; manua dexterity; good computer and keyboarding skills; commitment to ongoing professinal development. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of cataloging and classifying physical and electronid library materials; in-depth knowledge of using OCLC Connexion and an integrated library system, Polaris preferred. Knowledge of relevant metadata standards and guidelines (RDA, FRBR, AACR2, MARC, Dewey decimal classification and subject headings). Proficiency with metadata creation and experience with non-MARC metadata standards.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous library experience and previous cataloging experience.

Salary & Benefits:Pay grade begins at $42,500 and may be higher depending on qualifications.
